Love is in the air

It is not Valentine's day yet but someone just want a small simple cupcake to express his genuine feeling.  Although these cupcakes are no fancy but for sure they'll bring smile to whoever receive them.

I wonder who's the lucky one ...

...something borrowed

A friend of mine sent a bunch of cupcakes picture for my next project inspiration.  I found some I like and will make in near future.

Here are some...maybe you'll get inspired too.

I might make this for Christmas.  Looks like a Christmas present if I change the color.

St. Patricks day?  A pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

How about this for Cowboy's theme?  I believe it is Saguaro cactus... (if my horticulture teacher see this, he'll be proud of me...it has been 15 something years and I still remember my plant's name)

I love the teal / aqua / turquoise color with combination of dark chocolate.  Very pretty.  I wish one day I get that much cupcakes order.

These ones are just too cute.  So cute that I wanna keep them all.

Find your favorite so far?

More pictures ...

Dunno what these ones are?  Any guess?

How cool is this one: Fancy rainbow.  I wonder how to make it.  Do you know?

I just throw this picture because the bear is so adorable... makes me want to cuddle with him, her, or it?

so are you inspired yet?

Ortensia ... Hydrangea...what's the different?

Hydrangea is one of my favorite flower to use in the flower arrangement.  It is big and pretty.  However it is easily wilt.  a little secret I learned from experience is if you soak the flower petals in the water, the flower will plump again.

Hydrangea comes im many color white, green, pink, magenta, blue and purple.  My favorite one is purple with blue.  It is very hard to get this color in nature unless there is high calcium level in the soil.  Anyway enough of gardening lecture here.

Now back to cake ...

I made this with tip 2D.  Very easy to make but the impact is very sophisticated.

I also made this using marshmallow as the base.

What do you think?  Do you like it?  I hope you do.

i-NNOUNCE

so embarrass to post this :(  promise me you are not gonna make fun of this.  This is a BITTER SWEET moment for me.  Believe it or not, I struggled to make this cake last February.   O boy...

It has been 7 months and I make better cakes now...Yippie.  Any guess what this iPod cake for?

iPod cake with the headbuds

I made this cake to announce my baby gender.  No one seemed to get it though...  I don't blame them for not taking the time to stare at this, nor read the message.

Look the way I present them..... yuckkk.  But you get my point right?  This was a good way to break the happy news, or just simply to tell others how you feel.

Make your version and share the story with me.

{Betty Boop} just for the Sexy going 50

Last saturday, I made Betty Boop's birthday cupcakes for Karen's 50th surprise birthday party.  I was not sure where to find the cake topper in such short notice.

You see it everywhere when you don't need it, right?  All the sudden they just disappeared from you when you need them.

O well I had to make plan B.  Here's my plan B cake topper.

Betty Boop cake topper
I printed out Betty Boop picture with her sexy pose, placed her on the mini plastic champagne cup.  To make it more 3D, I made a red dress using fondant and jumbo heart shape sprinkle.  I think it turned out pretty well.

Originally, I was asked to make 24-25 cupcakes to go on the cupcake stand.....(euwwww).  I never like those stands.  It is convenient but makes any cupcakes look inexpensive.
Anyhow, I made 11 pianos cupcake to go on the base, 7 of the red cupcakes with little black dress for the 3nd tier, and 5 of the white rose icing on the 2nd tier.

Other cupcakes to compliment the theme
Since I had some free time, I paid a visit to Macy's.  I was ready to spend 30 something dollar on a nice ceramic serveware and Hallelujah, they were on sale.  You won't believe how much I got it for.  Any guess?  It was dirt cheap.

2010 collection item whiteware by Martha Steward

love the color combination! very sexy I think

Now my cupcakes sat happily on the white collection item serveware signed by Martha Stewart.  Ooooo how fancy.

My swirl !

I always admire this 'swirl' on a cupcake.  Finally got the chance to make one :)

Touch down: The Florida Gators Cupcake vs. the Seminole Cake

University of Florida vs. Florida state ... The Florida Gators vs. the Seminole

A green alligator cupcakes behind football field cake

I am not so much a football fan but when I was asked to make birthday cakes for both teams, I investigated a bit from the internet.  The gator cake is just for prank since the birthday boy actually hates the Gator.

Meet my gator.  He is a sweet gator.  He doesn't bite but like to be bitten.  Don't be scare of his teeth cuz. they are made out of jumbo heart sprinkles.  Who dare to eat?

Wanna see more of his scary expression?

how about now?

not scare yet?
Hello are you still there?  Don't run away I was just playing with you.

Fast Food Fun

Oh my … it just make me want to smile.  It's too pretty and 'sweet' to eat.

You’ve probably seen it around before. I know I have.  I switched mine up a little by doing the burger out of chocolate cupcake.  The chocolate cupcake left over from making the Tow Mater cake.  But, if you want more realistic burger, use vanilla cupcake as bun and chocolate cake as  beef patty.  My burger version is vegetarian.

Chocolate cupcake bun + icing = a Happy Burger

SUPPLY & TOOLS:
Chocolate cupcake
Icingg: white, red, yellow and green
Zip lock bag - snip a small tip off one corner
Tip no. 104 if you have one

DIRECTIONS:
Cut cupcake in third.  2 parts for bun and 1 part for beef patty.
Place each frostings in zip lock bags, except the white
Start with spreading white mustard using spatula or back of spoon.
Top with beef patty.
Gently squeeze out some ketchup.  Or, if you like to make tomato slice, make a round design.
Top with yellow cheese.
Then, a lettuce in a squiggly design.  Or you can use icing tip no 104 with fat end in.
Top it with the bun.  Squeeze gently.
(I secure the whole thing with long toothpick)
For the finishing touch, I squeeze out some sesame seeds using white icing.

very tasty !

Other websites I came across is using sugar pearls as sesame seeds but I think my way is easier and faster.  They also use coconut tinted in green as the lettuce.  It's all up to your imagination.  You can add some french fries made of sugar cookies too, and make the packaging yourself to make it looks real.  But I stopped mine as is cuz. it already made my husband happy.

Strawberry shortcake Birthday Cake

Giyada is turning 4 and her mom asked me to make 'any' cake for her.  What she meant by any cake was I got to decide the theme, so I went with Strawberry shortcake.

I searched online and found many cakes in hat form, or just simple round form with plastic Strawberry shortcake picks.  They didn't inspired me until saw this picture.

My inspiration - Strawberry shortcake in the tub

see the shower head I made?

the spirit of Holidays

... better with chocolate cake

Many craft stores I've been to were decorated with Christmas theme already.  Thanksgiving is still 2 month away but I am already in the mood for Christmas.  So don't be surprised if you see more Christmas goodies in my blog.

don't you think the cake looks better in chocolate?

Red tiny flowers and leaf made out of fondant. White non-pareil pearls for the flower center.  Ribbon for the base.  Simple, easy and very presentable for Christmas gift.

Tow Mater Cake and Cupcakes

I love Mater and his tall tales.  He makes me laugh.  He is full of characters and imaginations.  Once he is a Monster Truck Mater, then Unidentified Flying Mater, El Materdor, Mater the Greater and so on…  Just like me who have to change role as needed: a wife, a mom, a florist, a designer, a cook, a baker wanna be and so on.
My adventure started last week when a friend of mine son was going to turn one.  I made my first ‘Signature Petite’: Tow Mater.  Got my recipe from Disney website… and off course I simplified it.
This ‘Signature petit; is a party stealer and very easy to make, especially for a sloppy decorator like me….the sloppier the better.  I also created a 'thin' Mater for an option…'thin' means less sugar/icing. And he is just as sweet.

SUPPLIES & TOOLS: (make 6 Tow Mater centerpiece)
(1) box cake mix.  I prefer chocolate flavor and regular moist.
(2) 16 oz can of milk chocolate frosting
(1) 16 oz can of vanilla frosting
(6) cup Jumbo cupcake baking pan
(12) cup regular size cupcake baking pan
4.44 oz box of Keebler Fudge Shoppe Grashopper Cookies for tires, carburetors and dust crumbs.  You can use anything else that looks like tires, such as chocolate coins, or mini Oreos,
Ziploc bag
(12) regular size M&M for headlights.  I prefer yellow.
(12) small size M&M for eyes.  I prefer green.
(6) Any gum pieces for teeth.  I use Eclipse.
(6) 6-10 inch cardboard cake boards
Black edible pen
Toothpicks, optional.

DIRECTIONS: (~Original~ version)
Bake cupcakes as directed on the package.  Let cool and refrigerate.
For the dirt: Set aside 30 cookies.  Place remaining in a Ziploc bag and crush them.
For the teeth: Cut each gum into two pieces.  One piece longer than the other.
For the truck bed: Cut the top off of (6) regular size cupcake and frost with milk chocolate frosting and sprinkle with cookie crumbs.  Place cut side down toward the end of the cake board.
For the truck front body: Frost jumbo cupcakes and sprinkle with some cookie crumbs.
For the truck head: Frost the face with vanilla frosting and the rest with milk chocolate frosting.  Sprinkle with some cookie crumbs.  Attach it to the jumbo cupcakes using frosting.
For the tire and carburetor: Attach cookies as shown using frosting.
For the eyes: Draw a black dot on each eye.  You can be creative in making eyes expressions.
Attach the teeth, headlights and eyes using frosting

  TOW MATER (~Thin~ version)
SUPPLIES & TOOLS: same as the original version minus chocolate frosting and cookie crumbs.  Must use dark chocolate cake mix.
DIRECTIONS: Follow directions.  For the face: use vanilla frosting, or white fondant, or just simply white stock paper, whichever easier for you.
~~~ Yada yada yada... don't go anywhere...you still have cupcakes to make :) ~~~
